Xiaomi’s Mi 6X is another of those handsets that will be an excellent mid-range proposition aside from the Redmi Note 5 Pro. Hence, its launch has been highly anticipated. The company took the wraps off the phone today in China. It isn’t yet known whether this will handset will make it to India like the Mi 5X did last year as an Android One handset. However, a day back, the Mi 6X appeared on Android.com website. This clearly indicates that there will be a stock Android version of this device.
The design of the Mi 6X has not exactly remained shrouded in mystery. The company has been showing off the phone on its official channel on Weibo and it comes in five colours. The Mi 6X comes with the same metal chassis as the Mi 5X but has a bigger thin-bezel screen this time around. The rear is home to the dual cameras that look similar to the Note 5 Pro setup. There are the antenna lines which we saw on the Mi A1. The handset comes with USB Type-C at the bottom so that’s another thing that puts it above the Note 5 Pro. It also supports Quick Charge 3.0
We’ve already known the specs for a while, but here we go. At the core of the brand new phone is a Snapdragon 660 SoC aided by either 4GB/6GB of RAM. Both variants will pleasantly carry 64GB of expandable storage.
The display is pretty much the same as the Redmi Note 5 Pro which is 5.99-inch of a Full-HD+ real estate. Power needs of the handset will be taken care of via a 3010mAh battery. Obviously, the Mi 6X runs on Android 8.1 Oreo on top MIUI.
But Xiaomi took quite a lot of time parading its camera AI on stage at the launch event. And so, the camera is a big upgrade from last year. There’s a 20MP (Sony IMX376) sensor coupled with a 12MP (Sony IMX486) primary sensor. The primary shooter has a f/1.75 aperture and many of those AI quirks that we saw in the Mi Mix 2s. It is also bundled with Xiao AI which is Xiaomi’s own virtual assistant. As for the selfie shooter, it is a 20-megapixel Sony IMX376 sensor with soft LED flash and AI beautification software.
