Xiaomi might have just started to board an early trend of gaming smartphones with the Black Shark. The smartphone targeted at gamers is now official in China and it does have a unique look in some ways. It joins the Razer Phone in a new breed of devices which are called “gaming smartphones”. The company also launched a gamepad controller that is supposed to be used with the phone for a better gaming experience.

When we talk about the design, the rear of the phone is where your attention should be. It comes with a rugged look and a matte finish. But the most noticeable is the Black Shark logo in the centre that lights up when you play games. This does remind us where Xiaomi has got its inspiration. The rounded corners and the rugged texture should get users good grip and in-hand feel of the phone. The X-style design you see at the back is the antenna which not only looks cool but has some functions as well. Xiaomi said that this is the very first device with a Wi-Fi 2×2 MIMO multiple antenna design.
The front of the Black Shark has a 5.99-inch Full-HD+ OLED display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. The bottom bezel houses a physical home button with a fingerprint reader tucked inside it. Unsurprisingly, it is equipped with a Snapdragon 845 CPU which uses the Adreno 630 GPU for graphics rendering. The Black Shark not only has the best CPU, it has a multi-core AI Engine as well. This allows support for DCI-P3, video HDR, and MEMC intelligent motion compensation.
A dedicated cooling system was rumoured earlier and we have not been disappointed. The handset comes with a liquid cooling system. With one touch activation, the cooling system can decrease the temperature by 8 degrees.
Black Shark runs on Joy UI based on Android Oreo. Moreover, it comes with a 4000mAh battery. There isn’t much info available currently regarding the dual rear cameras at the back.
The Black Shark has two variants. The 6GB RAM + 64GB storage variant costs 2,999 Yuan. While the 8GB + 128GB variant costs 3,499 Yuan. Colour options include the classic Black and Sky Grey. What do you have to say about this phone? Let us know in the comments section below.
