Vivo comes up with yet another smartphone this month — the Vivo Y20 2021. It is the successor to the Vivo Y20, which is now available in the Malaysian market. Vivo is in a spree of making new product announcements towards the end of this year. Not long ago, the company launched Vivo V20 Pro 5G in the country and recently the Vivo X60 series as well. The Vivo Y20 2021 falls in the sub-12K segment, which is launched in Malaysia, and could likely venture into the Indian market, early next year. The phone retails at RM 999, which translates to around Rs 10,900 roughly.
Vivo Y20 2021 — Design and Display
Similar to the predecessor, the Y20 2021 edition also features mostly identical design aesthetics. It features the same dewdrop display on the front; the rear camera module also appears to be the same (including same cameras). The finish on the Vivo Y20 2021 also matches with the previous iteration.
The display on the latest Vivo Y20 2021 measures 6.51-inches and it comes in HD+ resolution. The dewdrop notch display that beholds the selfie shooter comes with a 20:9 aspect ratio and the FullView display also offers Eye Protection that filters Blue light emission. The IPS display is enclosed in a gradient finish back, which comprises Nebula Blue and Dawn White colour variants. There’s a new side-mounted fingerprint sensor for authentication, which is a new norm, and we can expect to see more of them next year. There’s additionally Face Unlock feature as well.
Vivo Y20 2021 — Hardware
The Y20 2021 equips MediaTek’s Helio P35 processor, underneath. The predecessor featured a Snapdragon 460 SoC. The Helio P35 is an octa-core processor with clock speeds capable of up to 2.3GHz. For graphics, it retains IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU. There’s also multi turbo 3.0 that claims to improve network performance and promises better and smoother gameplay.
For storage, the Y20 2021 includes 4GB of RAM and 64GB on onboard storage in addition to up to 256GB of microSD expansion. It ships with Android 10-based Funtouch OS 11 out of the box.
Like the predecessor, the Vivo Y20 2021 also equips triple rear cameras setup. The 13MP f/2.2 acts as the primary camera coupled with 2MP f/2.4 bokeh and 2MP f/2.4 super macro cameras. On the front, the selfie shooter comprises an 8MP f/1/8 sensor. The rear cameras on the device are AI-powered with features including Face Beauty, Portrait light effects and filters.
The Vivo Y20 2021 retains the same 5000mAh battery to draw power, which is indeed decent. Going by the specs sheets on the Vivo site, the device only supports 10W charging while the predecessor came with 18W fast charge support. It is still unclear whether the same charging capabilities venture to the Indian market, at this point.
The other highlights of the device include Wi-Fi (dual band), Bluetooth 5.0, micro USB, GPS, OTG, and FM. Lastly, the packing also includes — protective case and protective film applied on the screen, apart from documentation and charging adapter (including cable).
