What does this in-display fingerprint sensor do

The in-display fingerprint sensor is embedded between the front glass and display panel. The sensor is manufactured by Synaptics.

According to Vivo, by using photoelectric reflection technology, the RGB Pixel emits light which penetrates the outer glass to reach the finger. It also claims that the under-display fingerprint sensor can unlock the phone in around 0.6 to 0.7 seconds.

One doesn’t need to lift the device to unlock it. Just tap on the fingerprint icon and you’re good to go.  The sensor also helps in making secure payments through AliPay and WeChat.
