Apple might introduce USB Type-C for iPhones in 2019

TRAI - Apple could be banned?

While it is not surprising to see USB Type-C handsets in the Android part of the smartphone segment, the world of iPhone’s is simply void of that feature. Yes, Apple has admitted that USB Type-C is the future and also released Apple Macbooks with the feature but now Apple is ready to transition to phones. However, when that will happen is a subject of discussion.

USB Type-C on iPhones Coming

A new report states that Apple is not in a position to introduce the USB Type-C standard to iPhones this year. Hence, it will be doing it next year. According to DigiTimes, some analog IC vendors reported that Apple is redesigning chargers and related parts for 2019 iPhones. As per the source, “Apple’s adoption of Type-C in its iPhones will accelerate other smartphone companies’ adoption of the interface in their products. The popularity of Type-C interface among handsets will still depend on the adoption in Apple’s iPhones, nevertheless.”

In comparison, some reports state that USB Type-C fast charging adapters and lightning cables are debuting with 2018 iPhones. Also, a power brick with 18W delivery is under development, as per the same report. The new adapters will probably come with a USB Power Delivery unit that will feature a USB-C port. Also, this will speed up charging times and we’ll see 0 to 50 percent in 30 minutes, whenever the leap to Type-C happens.

As things stand, reports are unanimous that it will happen, but the debate is when. As for 2018 iPhones, Apple is largely believed to be working on three new models. We’ve already seen CAD renders of two of them – the 6.1-inch iPhone that is expected to cost $600 (roughly Rs. 40,300) to $700 (roughly Rs.47,000), and the 6.5-inch iPhone that will cost around $1000.
