One of the primary takeaways of the Sony WF-1000XM4 is its noise cancellation technology developed by Sony. With the help of the processor and the included QN1e chip, it aims to take noise cancellation even higher than the predecessor.

For instance, it features high-performance dual noise sensor microphones for ANC. There are 6mm drivers underneath with a 20% increase in magnet volume to improve ANC capabilities. This increase paired with high compliance diaphragm claims to give improved performance in low frequencies and enhance noise cancelling by generating high precision cancellation signal; to low-frequency range, the company suggests in its press release. The unit also comprises new noise isolation earbud tips further to enhance the experience along with an improved fit.

“The WF-1000XM4 supports High-Resolution Audio Wireless to deliver Audio content in exceptional quality. The Integrated Processor V1 enhances sound quality and reduces distortion, enables LDAC codec processing and DSEE Extreme™. Using Edge-AI, DSEE Extreme™2 (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine) upscales compressed digital music files in real-time. Dynamically recognising instrumentation, musical genres, and individual elements of each song, such as vocals or interludes, it restores the high-range sound lost in compression for a richer, more complete listening experience”

Furthermore, the TWS come with precise voice pickup technology for hands-free calling, which uses built-in microphones and a bone-conduction sensor. Then there’s 360 Reality Audio for an immersive audio experience, which combines with either Android smartphone or iPhone coupled with dedicated music streaming services.

The WF-1000XM4 has also borrowed the Speak-to-Chat feature from the acclaimed WH-1000XM4 model. This feature allows users to have short talks without taking out the buds from the ears. The feature automatically pauses music and lets in ambient sound to converse with others when you’re in public.

Quick Attention mode allows you to listen to an announcement by reducing volume and letting ambient sound with just a finger tap on the earbud. Moreover, adaptive sound control is a feature to sense the user on his activity and adjusts the ambient settings for an ideal listening experience.
