Samsung had just made an affordable 5G phone official in the country — the Galaxy M42 5G. The first 5G phone featuring in Samsung’s affordable M series lineup sits between the Galaxy M31s and the monstrous 7000mAh battery phone – the Galaxy M51. Samsung says that the device is tailored for tech-savvy millennials and Gen-z consumers. It also happens to be the first Galaxy M device to feature Samsung Pay, the company’s secure and convenient mobile payment service. For additional protection, the device also has Samsung Knox and its defence-grade mobile security platform.

The Galaxy M42 attains a prism-dot design on the back featuring Prism Dot Black and Prism Dot Gray colour options. It is a layered pattern design featuring different shades of the respective colours. Samsung has included a glossy finish to it to make it more appealing. It is said to be sleek, measuring 8.6mm in thickness. There’s a 6.6-inches display on the front, which is an sAMOLED Infinity-U display featuring HD+ resolution.

There’s a Snapdragon 750G SoC powering the Galaxy M42 5G, which evidently makes it 5G capable. The 5G, whenever is ready in the country, this phone could bring in 20x faster 4G speeds, 10x decrease in latency, on the whole, making the device future-ready. The chipset here is an octa-core processor from Qualcomm that utilizes a Kryo 570 CPU with clock speeds of up to 2.2GHz. For graphics, the chipset comes with Adreno 619 GPU; and for gamers, Samsung also provides a Game booster and frame booster that promises advanced gaming performance.
The chipset further is paired with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage — and there is micro SD expansion for up to 1TB. On the software front, the device ships with Android 11 based OneUI 3.1 out of the box.
The Galaxy M42, apart from 5G also offers a quad-camera system on the back — uses a 48MP ISOCELL GM2 primary sensor; paired with a 123-degree 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, a 5MP macro lens, and a 5MP depth sensor. For video, the rear camera supports HDR and 4K video at 30fps. The Infinity-U display on the front beholds a 20MP sensor that features ‘selfie focus’ for high-resolution selfies.
There’s a 5000mAh battery capacity powering the Galaxy M42 5G, which supports Samsung’s 15W fast charge technology; the respective adapter is included in the packaging.
Samsung Galaxy M42 5G — Pricing
The Galaxy M42 5G is launched in India and costs Rs 21,999 for the base 6GB+128GB variant, the larger variant (8GB+128GB) retails at Rs 23,999. The device will be available for purchase on the Samsung India website, Amazon, and select retail stores across India. There’s a special introductory offer from Samsung, which lets you get the base variant at Rs 19,999 and the larger one at Rs 21,999. It will be available for sale online in May.
