Redmi has a new line up of Redmi Note 9 5G series in the Chinese market. These Redmi Note 9 series differ from what we have seen in the Indian market, this year. The new Note 9 series launched in China brings the new Redmi Note 9, Redmi Note 9 5G and the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G smartphones. As the names suggest, these phones come with new 4G and 5G capabilities with new MediaTek and Snapdragon 5G chipsets.
Redmi Note 9 series — the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G
The top tier smartphone in this new series is the Note 9 Pro 5G smartphone. It features a 6.67-inches Full HD+ IPS LCD display with a punch hole in the centre, which beholds the selfie camera. It supports 120Hz refresh rates with touch sampling rates of up to 240Hz. The display is enclosed in a glass body with a gradient finish on the rear. Both sides of the Note 9 Pro comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Also, there’s an anti-splash coating to save the phone from water splashes.
Under the hood, the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G packs in Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 750G chipset, which is a 5G capable SoC from the chipset maker. It is an octa-core processor with clock speeds of up to 2.2GHz. For graphics, it has an Adreno 619 GPU. The storage options on the new Note 9 Pro 5G phone include 6/8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of onboard storage. There’s 512GB of additional microSD expansion also available.
For optics, the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G features a 108MP f/1.75 primary sensor coupled with an 8MP super wide-angle lens with 120-degree field of view, a 2MP macro and a 2MP depth sensor. On the front, the punch hole comprises a 16MP selfie shooter. The rear cameras support video recording of up to 4K at 30fps.
The Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G packs in a decent 4820mAh battery that supports the company’s 33W fast charge technology. The connectivity options apart from 5G include Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS, NFC, and Dual SIM. On the software front, the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G ships with Android 10-based MIUI 12 out of the box.
Redmi Note 9 series — the Redmi Note 9 5G
The Note 9 5G also features a Full HD+ punch-hole display; however, the punch hole resides on the top left corner of the device. The full screen here measures 6.53-inches and encloses in a matte body finish on the rear. The display is further protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
The MediaTek’s latest Dimensity 800U powers the Note 9 5G underneath. It is also an octa-core processor built on a 7nm process which can achieve clock speeds of up to 2.4GHz. There’s a Mali-G57 MC3 GPU for graphics. The Note 9 5G comes in either 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128/256GB of onboard storage.
There are triple cameras on the rear with a 48MP sensor acting as the main camera. There’s an additional 8MP super wide-angle lens with a 118-degree field of view. Besides, there’s a 2MP macro lens too. The front of the device features a 13MP selfie shooter. The rear cameras support 4K video recording while the selfie camera supports 1080p video recording at 30fps.
There’s a massive 5000mAh battery capacity powering the Redmi Note 9 5G. It supports Redmi’s 18W fast charging via USB Type-C. It shares identical connectivity options as its sibling.
Redmi Note 9 series — the Redmi Note 9 4G
The Note 9 4G here differs from the Note 9 4G variant launched in the Indian market when it comes to design and specs. The Note 9 featured a punch-hole display but the new Redmi Note 9 4G comes with a waterdrop screen. It measures 6.53-inches featuring Full HD+ resolution. The display comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection on top.
Unlike the Note 9 Indian variant, which featured MT Helio G85 SoC, the Chinese variant comprises a Snapdragon 662 SoC. The eight-core processor here supports clock speeds of up to 2.0GHz and there’s Adreno 610 graphics GPU. There are multiple storage variants available with this device featuring 4GB/6GB/8GB of RAM and 128/256GB of onboard storage.
The rear cameras include a 48MP primary camera, 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 2MP depth-sensing camera. On the front, there’s an 8MP selfie shooter. The rear cameras here feature Night Scene mode, HDR, AI Beauty, to name a few. They can shoot up to 1080p at 30fps.
The battery on the Note 9 4G is giant because it is of 6000mAh capacity. It further supports 18W fast charging through USB Type-C. Besides, it also supports reverse OTG charging.
Redmi Note 9 series — Pricing
The Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G starts at CNY 1599 (Rs 18,000 approx.). The Redmi Note 9 5G starts at CNY 1299 (Rs 14,600 approx.) and lastly, the Note 9 4G retails at CNY 999 (Rs 11,300 approx.). The Indian launch of these new Redmi smartphones is still unknown at this moment.
