Redmi mobile with Snapdragon 855 reportedly in the works, says Xiaomi VP

Xiaomi recently made Redmi a separate brand and thereafter launched the Redmi Note 7 in China. Now, while the company is gearing for its launch in India on February 28, there is something else in the works as well. Redmi has been touted to be working on a flagship device as well, which will be powered by the Snapdragon 855 SoC. And guess what? Xiaomi’s VP himself has now confirmed this news.

Redmi smartphone with Snapdragon 855 coming soon

Lu Weibing, the vice president and head of Redmi brand, has posted an image on his official Weibo account. This image seems to have confirmed that Redmi will soon introduce a smartphone powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC. There is not much content in the image per se. It basically lists out the powers of the Snapdragon 855 SoC. However, Lu has shared it with the caption saying that Redmi will be launching a Snapdragon 855 smartphone too.

Redmi v Poco F2?

The fact that Redmi will be coming with a Snapdragon 855 smartphone is a surprising one, to be honest. Xiaomi created Redmi a separate entity so as to ensure that the brand focused on mid-range smartphones only. However, if a Redmi smartphone comes equipped with an SDM855, it will definitely go head to head with the Poco F2, which is Xiaomi’s budget flagship brand. Obviously, both the smartphones will cut down on super-premium features to stay budget friendly. Nonetheless, Xiaomi seems to have created a market where it is essentially competing with its own self. As such, one solution to this could be that both smartphones will be launched in different regions. As of now, there is no word on either smartphones’ launch dates.
