Qualcomm has a new flagship processor — the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. It comes as the successor to the already successful Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which we have seen on all the recent flagships released this year, like the Galaxy S22 series, OnePlus 10 Pro, and Xiaomi 12 Pro name a few. However, the Plus model will likely be witnessed in the upcoming flagships releasing in the second half of this year. For instance, OnePlus, and iQOO have already confirmed that they will be featuring the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC for their forthcoming iQOO 10 Pro and OnePlus 10 Ultra models.
Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC — Features
The premium tier chipset from Qualcomm brings in the latest Adreno GPU that is said to be offering a 10% increase in GPU clock speeds and a significant 30% increase in power reduction. As for the CPU, the Kryo CPU provides a 10% increase in performance and 30% in power efficiency. Moreover, there seem to be additional power savings next to performance, suggests Qualcomm. This means you would get an additional 80 minutes of video streaming and more than 50 hours of web browsing; when compared with the predecessor.
Alongside the extra minutes of video streaming and web browsing, you would also get an hour of gameplay with the new SoC — thanks to the suite of Snapdragon Elite Gaming features. Besides, the chipset also supports the Unreal Engine 5, the powerful and latest 3D creation tool upon which the popular gaming titles are being built.
Qualcomm chips have been supporting 5G for a while now, and the new SoC is no exception; it ships with the Snapdragon X65 5G Modem-RF System. The new system will give users significant improvements for calling over five-and-half hours, to be precise, according to the chipset maker. And, with the Qualcomm FastConnect 6900, users would be able to get Wi-Fi speeds of up to 3.6Gbps.
Snapdragon 7 Gen 1
Qualcomm has also introduced its premium tier SoC for Snapdragon 7 series. Called the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, the chipset would be bringing improvements to mobile gaming and high-speed connection. The chipset maker suggests OEM makers like HONOR, OPPO and Xiaomi will be the early adopters of this new chipset, and we can expect the devices to be launched soon this year.
For the first time, Qualcomm is bringing the ability to shoot simultaneously with three cameras or take photos of 200MP resolution (on a Snapdragon 7 series SoC) with the new Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC with its built-in Spectra ISP. The Adreno GPU on the SoC will also offer a 20% increase in faster graphics rendering. Besides, the new platform has also support for Quad HD+ resolution displays.
Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 also gets the 4th gen Snapdragon X62 5G Modem-RF System, like the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. It further includes FastConnect 6900, which promises to deliver superior Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
