It’s been over a month after the launch of the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. Both the models are super perfect in terms of performance except with the screen issues. Many Pixel fans are asking if it is worth to upgrade their Pixel to the Pixel 2? No doubt, Google has put all its efforts to make a mark in the market. The phone seems to be the dream phone that Android lovers would have thought off. Well, after reading this article it will be quite clear!
Why do you need to upgrade to the Pixel 2?
Well, there are not a whole lot of advantages of talking about the upgrades, and yet the device has affected the geeky android fans out there. First of all, you get the latest Snapdragon 835 chipset which gives you seamless performance and will never fail you in terms of performance. The camera packed into it is one of the best cameras someone has ever seen. The camera has a 98/100 rating over DxO Mark. To assure the stability, the company opted for a two-way approach, the camera has both the EIS(Electronic Image Stabilization) and OIS(Optical Image Stabilization).
Many tests show that the stabilization is a little too perfect. The phone produces one of the best “bokeh effects” with an algorithm made by Google itself. The machine learning implemented in the algorithm improves the capturing capacity of the camera!
The squeeze feature is a new addition to the device. It helps you access the Google Assistant just by squeezing the bottom of the device. The Google lens embedded into the assistant helps you do a lot of crazy things, just point the camera to any object a pop-up showing the details of the object appears. The now-playing feature is a great add-on which works even when the device is offline. This feature helps the device find any song that is being played near you and display the details on the always-on display. Google asks just about 500 MB of space to get this going.
The design has also been improved comparing it with the predecessors of the device. The length of the glass panel at the back is reduced which gives the phone a unique look. The phone feels great on hand with the new finishing given at the back. The display varies according to the model you choose. The Pixel 2 comes with a 5-inch AMOLED panel whereas the Pixel 2 XL comes with a 6-inch p-OLED panel.
Both the displays produce vibrant colors and deep dark blacks just as they should (ignoring the reported screen issues). The Pixel 2 being the short one is created for one-handed use and Pixel 2 XL gives an almost bezel-less display. It may not be the best design but compared to its predecessor, this is a huge improvement. Overall, the hardware is pretty great and gives you a premium feel.
WHY NOT TO BUY PIXEL 2?
The first reason is quite obvious,i.e, the screen issues. Many customers have reported the early “screen burn-in” issue. Normally, screen burn-in occurs after a long-term use of the phone( say about 2-3 years). When talking about the camera the Pixel 1 was not bad either. It scored an 89/100 on DxoMark which is quite good!
The portrait mode is still one of the best in the market. Pixel 1 has a Snapdragon 820 packed into it which is still pretty great. The phone does not compromise in terms of performance. Both Pixel and Pixel XL come with an AMOLED display which is awesome and no one has reported any issue on the screen in any of the devices. The only thing that you are gonna miss is the squeeze feature and the now-playing feature.
Well, if you currently own a Pixel device then it not worth to upgrade the Pixel 2. If you are buying the phone just for a day-to-day workout then it is surely a waste of money to upgrade the device. With the reported issues, holding onto the Pixel seems a good choice. But, if you are a total Android geek and want the latest features just by your side then just buy it!
