To fulfill this requirement OPPO’s R&D team has worked on user requirement, for example, to capture video in any light conditions or scenarios.

With the R&D teams’ expertise in smartphone imaging technology, they seem to integrate imaging hardware and software resulting in the development of a new Full Dimension Fusion Portrait Video System. With intelligent Portrait Scene Detection and Portrait Feature Design, OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G is sought to bring in world-class portrait video experience.

Let us delve into the video led industry first features on the OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G!

OPPO’s Industry first Full Dimension Fusion Portrait Video System

This new system includes two primary elements comprising — Quality Enhancement Engine and Portrait Perception Engine. The former is a suite of algorithms that allows users to capture good quality videos in any situation or scenario. This could include low/bright light conditions and fast motion scenes to name a few. The Quality Enhancement Engine works to deliver videos that are true to life.

On the other hand, the Portrait Perception Engine works to define the subject and background individually within a single video frame. The OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G has the necessary blend of hardware and software to use this technology and apply multiple portrait video effects to the final product.

OPPO’s Industry first AI Highlight Video feature

The Quality Enhancement Engine further comprises of the AI Highlight Video and Ultra Steady Video 3.0. Firstly, the AI Highlight Video feature utilizes OPPO’s proprietary algorithm architecture that combines Ultra Night Video algorithms alongside Live HDR algorithms. These algorithms are combined into a single feature on the OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G cameras (front and rear). It can be enabled within the camera interface with the tap of an AI button on top. After which, the algorithms work together and get intelligently applied basis lighting conditions.

AI Highlight Off/On

For instance, in to backlit scenarios the Live HDR algorithms are technically applied when the lighting conditions are more than 90 lux (a measure of intensity of light that passes through the surface). In the backlit conditions, the Live HDR algorithms will handle high contrast scenes effortlessly — including highly bright and intensely dark situations. In these situations, the AI Highlight Video feature on the OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G can capture clearer and brighter portraits even in overexposed backgrounds.

[AI Highlight Video Off vs On]

The AI Highlight Video feature doesn’t stop there — it further stretches to low light conditions. Here the Ultra Night Video algorithms are applied to increase the brightness of the subject or to increase clarity on the subject in a video. The use case situations include city nightscapes, light/firework shows, lit fountains, lights on buildings, to name a few. While these cover the outdoor lighting scenario, the other indoor outlines can include dinner/birthday parties or family gatherings. In these cases, the AI Highlight Video algorithms make their way to tackle poorly lit conditions, and further enhance brightness, along with clarity and color vibrancy. For example a subject is standing in front of a sunrise/ sunset in front of sea. There’s an indoor use case that involves cafes/restaurants with light arising from the outside or bright interior lights in the scene itself.

The AI Highlight Video feature is also a combination of OPPO’s Adaptive Brightness Adjustment, Dynamic Range and Noise reduction. These tend to work together to deliver a 74.4% increased brightness taken at night time with the feature on rather than setting it off. On the OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G it does that with up to 40% less power consumption as well.

Challenge yourself to a DUAL with a Dual-View mode

The device further equips Dual View Video mode. The feature here is self-explanatory as it lets you shoot videos from both front and rear cameras simultaneously. The dual-view mode also allows users to try out three different split-screen layout modes that include Split, Round and Rectangle. These are sub window modes on your screen, which can be customized during video creation.

For instance, a user can record a singing duet with his friends or family in rectangle or round sub window layouts. There are other use cases as well, which may include recording a device review wherein you can unbox it with one camera and capture your expression using another camera simultaneously. Or, you record a talk show featuring yourself and another person on two cameras, again, simultaneously.

Make yourself pop-out literally in videos

As suggested earlier, the Portrait Perception Engine focuses and defines the subject and background individually. For instance, there’s an AI Color Portrait feature, which lets users apply colour pop on the subject individually and keep the background in B&W, which is quite handy. This new engine accompanied by a Video Portrait System, allows users to capture portrait subjects more naturally and they can further highlight in the way they would like to.

There’s a Scene Design Manager under this new system, which analyses real-life portrait scenes backed by OPPO’s 10 million data and defines strict criteria for various scenarios. This further provides suitable adjustments to subject and background when capturing a portrait video.

The video system further comprises Portrait Recognition process with OPPO’s in house optimizations, which promises to deliver fast, accurate and natural handling of portrait subjects and backgrounds within a video. The Portrait Perception Engine doesn’t stop here, in addition to facial recognition of the subject, it can further track and analyze other human bodies in a video. The engine further helps users to extract them from within the same video and deliver a clearer video with the primary portrait subject in focus. This applies in most complex backgrounds as well.

Also, there’s Instance segmentation, which further can detect subjects within an image and allow users to have personalized effects on it with AI Color Portrait. For instance, with the AI Color Portrait mode users can apply black and white filters to the background while keeping portrait subjects’ color to natural; this delivers a contrasting color effect to the image. It comes with a real-time preview for both video and photo modes on the OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G.

Besides, there’s Monochrome video mode that applies three different video filters, which include highlighting reds/greens/blues in a video. This feature is available only on the rear camera of the OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G.

Shoot steady videos with Ultra Steady Video 3.0

There are other salient video features on the OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G that comprise Ultra Steady Video 3.0 and 960fps slow-motion recording. The Ultra Steady Video 3.0 on the Reno5 Pro 5G, which brings image stabilization to multiple scenarios, like running, or jumping, for example.

The former is said to be OPPO’s exclusive stabilization technology, which allows users to record a stable high-quality video without compromising on mobility. There are multiple stabilization modes including Ultra Steady Video on the primary rear camera, Front Steady Video on the selfie camera and the Ultra Steady Video mode for the ultra-wide-angle camera on the back. To provide a clear and stable portrait video, the OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G combines front Ultra Steady Video 3.0 mode alongside the AI Highlight video as well.

[Ultra Steady Video 3.0 Off vs On]

The Ultra Steady Video 3.0 mode can potentially be used to capture sport or an event where there is a lot of movement, as the OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G handles them with ease. It also helps for vloggers, specially travel vloggers who are usually always on the move and coupled with Dual Video mode, the device is indeed a viable option to capture the moments.

Moreover, to create cinematic or movie-like shots the device utilizes a 4-fold frame interpolation algorithm, which detects moving objects, during recording. Also, the rear camera on the OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G enables users to capture slow-motion recording at 960fps and the selfie camera also supports up to 240fps.
