If you thought the F19 Pro+ 5G and the F19 Pro were the last phones to come in the OPPO F-series, think twice. The company isn’t showing any signs of slowing down and has come with yet another promising entry in the sub Rs. 20,000 price segment. And why not! The popularity of the F Series has been established from the fact that the brand has to date, sold 10 Million F series smartphones in India. This one is called the OPPO F19 and it is the youngest child in the F19 series priced at just Rs 18,990. The device will be available for purchase from April 9 across offline stores and leading e-commerce platforms.
I have been using the OPPO F19 for about a week now as my primary device, and here are my reactions.
The OPPO F19 is undoubtedly, one of the best-built phones that I have come across lately in the sub-20k price category. For one, this is a device that has a 6.43-inch display (more on the display later), but the ergonomics are so good that not even once I’ve had any issues with operating this phone with one hand. This is also partly thanks to the 3D curved body design.
Apart from these features, the two things that make this device stand out from the crowd are the charging and the large battery. First the numbers; you’re getting a large 5,000mAh battery that comes with a 33W fast charger in the box. OPPO calls it 33W Flash Charge and the F19 does fuel-up pretty quick. I would say, it consistently used to take my F19 about an hour to go from 10-100%. OPPO claims it usually takes about 72 minutes to go from 0-100%, which is a pretty accurate claim. One more thing the company is claiming is that with a 5 minutes charge, you can either do calls for about 5.5 hours, Instagram and YouTube for about 2hours. And I don’t doubt these numbers. As a matter of fact, out of the three, I can safely confirm that I was able to watch YouTube straight for a little over 2 hours after charging the phone for just 5 minutes. Very impressive!
As for the overall longevity, during this one week, I have only charged the OPPO F19 just three times, and at this time of writing, my phone is in its third battery cycle. This means, yes, I am easily getting two days worth of battery life, without any struggle. On top of that, there are features such as Super Power-Saving Mode, Super Nightime Standby, Battery Guard and Charging heat control that will make sure that the phone’s battery remains healthy in the longer run. The battery and the charging capabilities add to the overall appeal of the phone and supports the great performance I experienced on the device.
In terms of colour options, you are getting two of them — Prism Black and the one that I have with me, and I think it is best of them as well, Midnight Blue. I mean, there’s something about the glossy finish at the back! Wait, glossy is the wrong word, it is a mirror-like finish that can’t be described in words but boy does it look pure and attractive! By the way, the mirror-like finish is complemented on the F19’s frame as well, and not to mention there’s a slight gradient shift that goes from silver at the top and naturally turns into blue as you go to the bottom. And yeah, this applies to the frame as well. This entire gradient shift is very gradual across the phone body, but looks so cool!
The OPPO F19 is a very comfortable phone to hold and operate. If you want numbers, well, it weighs just about 175grams and measures 7.95mm in thickness, and mind you, this phone has a 5,000mAh battery under the hood. And yes, overall, the phone feels light when you hold it in the hands, bravo! In fact, the OPPO F19 is the sleekest phone with a 5000mAh battery in its price segment all thanks to OPPO’s superb design engineering which makes sure that the phone is lightweight and sleek.
Otherwise, the buttons on the OPPO F19 offer amazing tactile feedback. In terms of authentication, there’s an optical in-display fingerprint sensor that is fast and accurate. OPPO calls it In-display Fingerprint 3.0 and all you need to know here is that it is one of the most secure optical fingerprint sensors that you can find on a phone today, period.
Now, on to the phone’s front. The OPPO F19 is graced by a 6.4-inch AMOLED punch-hole display, that comes with Full-HD+ resolution. And because of the slim bezels and a 20:9 aspect ratio, what you’re getting here is a neat 90.8% screen-to-body ratio. For that matter, I also noticed that the punch-hole is very small, so that’s great.
In terms of features and functionality, well, who doesn’t like AMOLED displays, huh? And OPPO has been perfecting the art of making good displays for years now, and this one is no different. I’ve been using this phone indoors and outdoors, and I can promise that you won’t have any issues with the brightness levels. It gets plenty bright and that’s what matters. Besides, I also love the wide-viewing angles; didn’t notice any sort of bleeding around the edges or the punch-hole; and yeah, features such as dark mode, eye comfort and always-on display simply sweeten the deal. Apart from this, you’re also getting Widevine L1 certification here, which means watching HD content shouldn’t be a problem at all. And of course, the display also makes up for a great gaming experience. Speaking of gaming, I also want to talk about the hardware, and then I will briefly tell you about the performance. But first, let’s focus on the software.
The OPPO F19 runs on the latest ColorOS 11.1 based on Android 11. This year, I have had the opportunity to test ColorOS 11 on many OPPO phones, and my experience remains the same here as well. At this stage, I am so familiar with ColorOS 11, that I can easily say this is one of my favourite custom Android skins of all times. But briefly, if I do have to point out a few things, well, first I really like the close to the stock aesthetic. But unlike stock Android, ColorOS 11 is loaded to the brim; form plus functionality is the core of OPPO’s ColorOS. So overall, you’re getting a lot on offer here. Of course, slick animations and smooth transitions definitely add up to the enhanced experience. But besides this, features such as Private Safe, App Lock, System Cloner, Kids Space, Game Space to name a few, are part of the reason why I appreciate ColorOS 11 so much. Not to mention, you also get a tonne of customization options that let you play with your home settings, wallpapers, lock screen, icons and whatnot. So, ColorOS 11.1 gets a huge thumbs-up from my side.
And now, let’s talk about the hardware. So, the OPPO F19 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 SoC coupled with 6GB RAM. As for the storage, you’re getting 128GB of UFS2.1, but the good part is that you can also expand the storage on this phone, thanks to a triple slot. Yes, folks, there’s a dedicated microSD card slot on this device! And for that matter, couldn’t help but point out that the good ol’ headphone jack is also present here. Good attention to details, I appreciate the approach.
Anyway, in terms of performance, the OPPO F19 didn’t disappoint me at all. Apps load up fast, RAM management has been good and battery life has been amazing. RAM management for that matter has been solid actually since I wasn’t expecting 6GB RAM to be enough for my daily usage, but it has been working just fine. Put this phone under any kind of load, and it just doesn’t get bogged down at all. I have also been playing a lot Call of Duty: Mobile, and I am happy to report that I didn’t come across any sort of overheating, and yeah the overall gaming experience has been great up until now, so no complaints. Not to mention, Game Space is a nice addition to ColorOS 11.1 that only adds to the enhanced experience during gaming.
Finally, let’s briefly touch down upon the cameras. At the rear, there’s a triple-lens setup comprising a 48MP main camera; this is the OV48B image sensor that OPPO has used here. Accompanying the main camera are a couple of 2MP macro and 2 MP depth lenses. At the front, there’s a 16MP AI selfie camera housed in a single punch hole design.
Of course, there are a variety of features on offer, but one of the key highlights here has to be AI scene enhancement, which as the name suggests automatically enhances your images for a better overall result. And besides this, you also get features such as night mode, portrait mode, expert mode aka pro mode, pano etc. Below, I am sharing a few photo samples that I took on my OPPO F19 during this initial swing. So, please take a look and share your thoughts with me in the comments.
At Rs. 18990, I feel the OPPO F19 is a solid smartphone for all those who are on the lookout for a great all-around device. Long story short, the OPPO F19 offers an amazing display, the battery life has been impressive, the phone has a terrific build quality and in-hand feel and of course, the cameras look promising. I won’t deny that I am absolutely impressed by the OPPO F19, but still, I’ll be going in-depth about this phone in my full review, and if you don’t want to miss that, I’d say do keep a close eye. But if I could give you a nugget from the future, I’ll say that not much will change in the review guys. The OPPO F19 has impressed me and I am sure, if you’ll get one, it will impress you too!
