OnePlus 8 Series - Feature Image-2

OnePlus has announced yesterday in the evening that they will be unveiling the OnePlus 8 Series on April 14 at 8:30 PM. The handset maker will be unwrapping its all-new series in two week’s time. We all are excited to see what’s in store for us. And Pete Lau has already teased some technical specifications on the official OnePLus forum today. Let’s talk about it below.

OnePlus 8 Series – What to expect?

In January OnePlus already shared about the new display tech they will be using. The 120Hz Fluid display with MEMC technology-enabled for a smoother experience. Now we get some official mention regarding the hardware that OnePlus 8 will be sporting.

Starting with the processor, well there’s not much secret here that it will be powered by the latest Snapdragon 865 SoC. What Pete tells us is that it will be offering a 25% increase in CPU and GPU performance over its predecessor. Further, it will reduce 16% power consumption while shooting the video. The AI performance power will be twice as much as its predecessor holds. The Hexagon 698 DSP will make also offer 35% better power efficiency.

Welcome to the new generation of smartphone RAM, LPDDR5. This will be making its debut on OnePlus smartphones with the 8 Series. “The transfer rate reaches a blazing 6,400Mbps at bandwidth as high as 51.2GB/s. LPDDR5 is also built with power consumption in mind, achieving a 45% lower power consumption when compared with the previous generation.”, as quoted by Pete Lau.

Then there was the storage. Speaking about the storage support on the 8 Series, it will have UFS 3.0 storage support. The fastest and efficient storage technology for flagship smartphone performance. It will dramatically raise the reading and writing speeds up to 1700MB/s. The company has claimed to further tweak the performance with Turbo Write and Host Performance Booster technologies.

Will that be enough?

Hardware can take up only so much ahead, after that it’s all about software. The Founder acknowledges that and shares its R & D has worked to optimise the software experience. The FSE Team, an acronym for Fast, Smooth, and Efficient, ensures we get best-in-class software with Oxygen OS.
