ZTE subsidiary Nubia has announced its flagship Nubia Z18 at an event in Beijing, China today. The handset is a 3D curved glass bodied device that comes in Deep Dark Night and Nebula Red colour options. While the standard 6GB RAM + 64GB storage costs 2,799 Yuan ($409), there’s also an 8GB RAM + 128GB storage model which is priced at 3,299 Yuan (approximately $482).
The front of the Nubia Z18 is, as we expected, a watered-drop notch display with 6.0-inches of Full-HD+ real estate. It has a 91.8 percent screen-to-body ratio and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. On the driving seat is the Snapdragon 845 octa-core processor clocked at 2.8GHz. The Nubia Z18 has something called Nubia Evolution Tensor technology which the company says is evolutionary. It is compatible with Caffe, Pytorch, and TensorFlow. As per the company, the new tech learns and can speed up its own learning by 200 percent because of the diverse frameworks.
Nubia’s camera setup is AI-infused as well with a 16-megapixel and 24-megapixel combo. It has both OIS and EIS and an 8MP Portrait Mode. Nubia calls its AI “NeoVision ET Image Engine”, well that’s a mouth full. Nubia claims that it’s AI works with 40 percent better accuracy in terms of scene recognition compared to other present solutions. Amongst other tall claims, the Nubia Z18 is the “king of night photography” says the phone maker. It has pixel-level recognition for noise and the AI makes it deliver stunning images at night.
The Nubia Z18 runs Nubia UI 9.0 with Maverick Voice 2.0 assistant and it is powered by a 3,450mAh battery with 18W Neocharge 2.5. It will go on sale from September 11 through Nubia’s official website, Jingdong Mall, and Suning Easy to buy.
