No wireless charging on the OnePlus 7, confirms CEO

OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition

With MWC 2019 here, plenty of smartphone manufacturers have already showcased their latest offerings. While OnePlus didn’t have anything concrete to show far, yet, they did spill the beans on the upcoming OnePlus 7. We already know it will be powered by the Snapdragon 855 SoC. However, one of most asked about questions about the device is the support for wireless charging. And well, it seems like even the OnePlus 7 will be skipping it this time around.

OnePlus 7 won’t have wireless charging

In an interview between CEO of OnePlus Pete Lau and CNET, Lau revealed that the OnePlus 7 will, in fact, no support wireless charging. OnePlus’ smartphones usually come with all the flagship features. However, that is one thing which has always eluded the company’s offerings. However, Lau does state that this does not mean that the company won’t support wireless charging on any of its future devices. Lau states that “OnePlus charging is one of the best”. And that wireless charging is too slow in its current standard compared to a half-hour top up on Warp Charge.

OnePlus is actively working to accelerate wireless charging technology. Basically, it aims to make it reach a level as fast as its Warp Charge (or the older Dash Charge). According to Lau, the main challenge currently is to ensure the device doesn’t heat up. However, when asked whether the newly announced Qualcomm Quick Wireless Charge standard would be incorporated with OnePlus in the future, Lau declined to comment.
