As expected, Apple launched a student-friendly iPad at an exclusive launch event yesterday. The new 9.7-inch iPad is clearly aimed at the school-attending segment as it comes with an Apple Pencil and a very pocket-friendly price tag of $299.
In terms of hardware, the new iPad isn’t all that different from the one that is already in the market. It comes with the A10 Fusion chip as well as front and rear cameras for HD video recording and document scanning. The new tablet is also armed with student-centric software called Everyone Can Create and Schoolwork. These apps will help teachers and students co-ordinate better to make the learning process easier.
Apple has also equipped the new devices with AR and the good old Retina display for a pleasurable viewing experience. The new tablets also offer a sizable 200GB of free iCloud storage versus the 5GB that was offered earlier.
India availability and price
The new iPad will be available in India starting April at a base price of Rs 28,000 for the 32GB Wi-Fi variant. For the 32GB cellular variant, buyers will have to shed Rs 38,600. That’s not counting the Apple Pencil that comes separately with a price of Rs 7,600.
Greg Joswiak, Apple’s Vice President of Product Marketing, said, “This new 9.7-inch iPad takes everything people love about our most popular iPad and makes it even better for inspiring creativity and learning.”
