Motorola’s first 5G smartphone in India is here — the Moto G 5G. It also happens to be the first smartphone to feature with the new Snapdragon 750G chipset in the country. The company had initially launched the Moto G 5G for the European market, and now it is available in India through Flipkart. The device comes with new design aesthetics featuring a full-screen punch-hole display, multiple cameras on the back. And, most importantly, new 5G capability, which, at least for now, is irrelevant in the country; nonetheless, it is still future-ready.

Moto G 5G — Design

Motorola’s new 5G device features a punch-hole display, which also happens to be new for the company’s Moto G family of devices. The Max Vision display with HDR10 support — measures 6.7-inches and comes in Full HD+ resolution. The rear comes with plastic body build, which is also water repellent (IP52 rating). And, there’s a dedicated button to trigger Google Assistant — for authentication, there’s a fingerprint sensor under the batwing Motorola logo, underneath the rear cameras.

Moto G 5G — Specs

The Moto G 5G equips Qualcomm’s 5G capable Snapdragon 750G chipset. The SoC is debuting this device in the country for the first time. The 5G processor supports both mmWave and sub-6GHz 5G spectrums, which makes the device ready for future use in India. The SoC is a 64-bit octa-core processor with clock speeds of up to 2.2GHz.

In terms of storage, the Moto G 5G features in single storage variant — 6GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. There’s an additional microSD expansion option for up to 1TB.

The rear cameras on the new 5G device feature a 48MP f/1.7 primary sensor, an 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle sensor with 118-degree FOV, and a 2MP macro vision camera. The punch hole on the front carries a 16MP selfie shooter. The rear cameras support 4K video recording at 30fps, and the front camera supports Full HD recording at 30fps. The rear cameras further feature modes including — Night Vision, HDR, RAW photo, Google Lens integration, to name a few. Similarly, the selfie shooter also has portrait mode, face beauty mode, gesture selfie and a night vision mode.

Moto G 5G — Battery

The Moto G 5G features a bigger 5000mAh battery capacity that claims to give a two-day battery life. It charges via USB Type-C and supports Motorola’s 20W Turbo power charging.

Lastly, the other highlights of the device include Moto actions, a 3.5mm headphone jack, button to trigger Google Assistant, 5G, GPS, Bluetooth 5.1 and NFC support. The device comes with Hybrid Dual SIM port. The new 5G handset ships with stock Android 10 out of the box. And, the company assures Android 11 update is coming soon.

Moto G 5G — Pricing

The Moto G 5G with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of built-in storage costs Rs 20,999, and will be available through Flipkart in the country. There’s an offer price which makes the device cost Rs 19,999, for only HDFC bank cards’ users.  The device comes in two colour variants — Frosted Silver and Volcanic Grey. The first sale of the Moto G 5G starts on December 7th at 12 noon.
