As many as six Meizu devices are expected to debut before the first half of 2018 ends. The Meizu’s M6s was the first launch of 2018 from the Chinese manufacturer. It was rumoured to launch under its subsidiary mblu or Blue Charm, however, that did not pan out. The Meizu E3, that surfaced for the first time in early February, will likely be the first mblu smartphone.
In this article, we cover all the leaks, specifications, and images of the handset that is relevant to the device.
Meizu E3 leaked images
The very first Meizu E3 leak showed only the rear of the handset showing us a central vertical camera setup on the phone. Also, the antenna lines were given the subtle look making them merge with the top and bottom corners of the phone. That was the first leak, though.
The second leak of the handset (above) showed off the front screen and the rear part. It was good enough to give us the idea that it would be an 18:9 aspect ratio display. Apart from that, it also highlighted a particular software feature of the phone. Meizu has renounced its trademark mBack button with an on-screen one on the M6s. The halo software button serves the same purpose as the mBack button. The on-screen button reappeared in the Meiz E3 leak. This would also mean that the fingerprint reader would either be in the power button, or at the back. The leak suggested that the power button is likely to house the fingerprint reader following the M6s design once again.
The third leak of the handset was pretty elaborate and it shed light on all the relevant angles of the design of the Meizu E3. It also reaffirmed the previous leak’s authenticity. These new images showed the rear camera on a different position than first thought. It was much similar to the iPhone X setup. It also confirmed the fingerprint reader to be embedded in the power button clearly. Besides that, it also showed a 3.5mm headphone jack and a USB Type-C at the bottom. All these leaks appeared just in the span of four to five days. The only area where they didn’t seem to agree was the dual camera placement. This latest leak seemed much more authentic compared to the first one as it displayed a detailed account of the design.
Once more, the Meizu E3 appears online, this time also solving the dual camera setup confusion. This new leak also hints to a branding on the right-hand side of the rear in a vertical position. However, the source having blurred the label makes it unclear whether it is a Meizu or mblu label. Note that the specs of the handset stayed out of reach of tipsters up till now.
Fast forward to today, and we have our first official hint of the Meizu E3, or shall we say mblu E3. The handset has just passed TENAA and that means a major hurdle on the road to its imminent release. Along with the certification, a detailed spec sheet has also leaked which had been missing up to this point. We already have a good idea of the design of the Meizu E3. Now we delve on the spec sheet aspect of the phone.
Meizu’s E3 labelled M851Q on TENAA, is at best an upper mid-range handset judging by the specs leaked today.
Meizu E3 rumoured specifications
The screen is supposed to be 5.99-inch which is becoming standard rapidly with 18:9 aspect ratio displays. It sports a Full-HD resolution of 1080 x 2160p. Under the hood, the device has an octa-core processor clocked at 1.8GHz. The latest speculation is that the processor might be an upcoming MediaTek Helio P38 chipset.
Further, as for the camera segment, the phone houses a 20MP + 12MP duo on the rear while the front houses an 8MP shooter. The Meizu E3’s power needs will be satisfied by an adequate 3300mAh battery. If these specs are spot on, the handset should ship with Android 7.1.1 on board. The Meizu E3 has the following dimensions: 156.8 x 75 x 7.6mm.
Meizu’s E3 will have two RAM variants and three storage options. A 3GB RAM variant along with a 4GB RAM variant is expected to be sold. While storage options include 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB of ROM.
Meizu E3 launch date
The company has already sent out invites for the Meizu E3. And they are pretty unusual invites. From a company that sends old snickers, and used Nokia phones it is to be expected. Meizu E3 invites were sent on frying pans and zoom lenses that hinted at two types of E3. Popular opinion is that Meizu might be looking at a camera-centric and a gaming-centric device. However, it could very well be that the Meizu E3 is a single device with both these capabilities. The launch of the Meizu E3 takes place on March 6, 2018, in China.
