While we’re still not aware why Meizu is launching two flagships in such quick succession, we think we now also have an actual launch date for the Meizu 16. The handset will take the mantle from its barely three-month-old predecessor, the Meizu 15. Today, Meizu CEO, Jack Wong, chief dispenser of Meizu 16 info, has revealed on the Meizu forums that the handset will get a curtain-raiser on August 26.
There are still two months to go before an actual launch, but Meizu founder has been teasing things about the new flagship almost every day on the forums. There will definitely be a Snapdragon 845 variant and there might be a Snapdragon 710 as well. Earliest confirmations on the forums from Wong revealed that it will also have an on-screen fingerprint reader and a screen-to-body ratio better than the iPhone X.
The handset has received 3C approval in China and we’re eagerly awaiting TENAA approval which is still pending. The most recent statement on the forums regarding the price from the Meizu founder was that the Meizu 16 could start as low as $615 or 4,000 Yuan.
Amongst other teased features is a heat dissipation chamber for cooling, 3.5mm headphone jack, and dual rear cameras. Despite so much information, we’re yet to see an actual leaked design of the handset in the flesh. Let’s hope that happens this month or in early August.
