Honor 7C first look: dual cameras with flagship features and face unlock at Rs. 9,999

Honor has definitely been at the forefront of the Indian smartphone market this year. The brand has established itself as a serious smartphone manufacturer both in the budget and the mid-range categories. Its latest smartphone duo, the Honor 7A and 7C were recently unveiled in India. And today, we take a look at the latter and the more powerful one of the two.

Honor 7C Design: metal minimalism

Draped in blue, Honor 7C is a sturdy piece of engineering which combines metal with high-grade polycarbonate for a premium in-hand feel. The cold metal does make it feel like a pricier phone, and the paint job on the polycarbonate top and bottom caps is impeccable.

Coming to the other areas of the good design, we have a very well-built frame all around, which also hosts the Micro-USB port, a speaker grill, and thankfully a 3.5mm headphone jack. The tall aspect ratio also makes it easier to handle even with this big size.

The right side of the frame hosts the clicky power and volume buttons, and the left side is home to a triple slot. This is pretty cool because it can hold two SIM cards and a microSD card. The overall design of the phone is quite attractive, especially in this Electric Blue color. The Honor 7C is available in Black and Gold colours too, but we’re definitely sticking with this one.

Honor 7C Display: your personal television

2018 has been the year of tall smartphones and small bezels, and you guessed it right, the Honor 7C has both. You get a huge 5.99-inch screen at a 720x1440p resolution and it gets plenty bright too. While the 720p resolution might sound low, you’ll only realise that if you ever compare it side-by-side with a 2K or a 4K display.

If you are a fan of consuming movies and YouTube videos on your phone and use it as your main multimedia device, then I’m sure you’d fancy this phone.

Honor 7C internals: under the hood

The Honor 7C is powered by a Snapdragon 450 SoC coupled with 4GB of RAM. The Snapdragon 450 is an octa-core chipset and uses the same cores used in higher-powered chipsets like the Snapdragon 636 and the Snapdragon 660. The 4GB of RAM certainly provides a punch to the whole performance and with a well-optimised EMUI skin on top. We are sure the performance wouldn’t be a letdown.

The Honor 7C also comes with Face Unlock and is one of the few phones that do in this price range. The setup is quite straightforward and it works seamlessly. Now for the times when you aren’t able to use face unlock, Honor doesn’t leave you hanging and provides a very fast fingerprint scanner at the back.

The battery inside is a 3000mAh battery and this is where the less taxing 720p resolution comes into play. The power conserving Snapdragon 450 and optimisation in software also helps the battery life. All this coupled with Honor’s advanced power saving modes will make your experience hassle-free.

Honor 7C cameras: double the cameras, triple the fun

The Honor 7C’s most prominent design element is the three-piece camera cutout at the back. The dual camera setup here is accompanied by an LED flash placed right next to them. At the back, we have a 13MP primary sensor and a 2MP depth sensor which makes the portrait mode possible on it. Well, the dual camera setup has been the trend this year, but little do people know that Huawei was one of the first companies to introduce dual cameras to the market. It’s good to see the Honor is making it possible to have a similar experience at affordable prices.

Honor 7C also takes portrait mode or bokeh mode pictures with the dual camera setup. Apart from the portrait mode, the 7C also boasts a beauty mode which will instantly make your selfies look a 100 times better.

Closing thoughts

The Honor 7C is the affordable multimedia and gaming device carefully built for the Indian consumer. It’s the perfect culmination of premium flagship features like Face Unlock and dual cameras. And, you also get India-centric features like the triple-slot design and big screen displays. Well, the Honor 7C ticks a lot of boxes and is definitely another right stroke for the brand.
