Google Tez app has 12 million users in India

Google Tez was launched in September 2017 and since then the app has processed innumerable transactions. The app had 7.5 million users within five weeks of its launch. These statistics were revealed by Google itself in an event on Tuesday held in New Delhi. Sundar Pichai himself shared this figure and even told that the app will surpass the 12 million mark as well within a couple of days. 

Caesar Sengupta (VP of Product Management, Google) shared the facts that the Tez app has processed up to 140 million transactions so far since the app was launched.


The acceleration of the app started from day one and has given outstanding results, it has helped in gaining the trust and confidence of its users. According to NPCI data, the period between October-November the Tez app holds 70% of the transactions on BHIM UPI. The app has proven very helpful to suppliers to transfer money without any hassle. The statistics also revealed that 5.25 lakh merchants are already using the Tez app. 

On the event held on Tuesday, Caesar Sengupta has announced the launch of the bill payments via Google Tez app. From Tuesday the app will support payment of the bills form selective tie-ups. They are Airtel, ACT, DishTV, DoCoMo and TATA Power. It was also mentioned that the app will support 70 billers which include state electricity, as well as national, DTH recharge, and gas and water. This feature has yet not been rolled out but it will in a couple of weeks. Every user will receive notifications when this feature is rolled out. 

The VP of Product Management is focussing on the bill payments more than anything else, he wants the payment of bills to become completely digital and hassle-free. He even said, that in the coming weeks the app will get many reforms and changes for its betterment.
