Google Pixel 5a (5G) is the new cheaper Pixel device and a direct successor to the Google Pixel 4a, launched last year. The Pixel 5a brings in significant changes from the predecessor, including 5G capabilities, a bigger screen, and a decent upgrade to the battery. The much anticipated Pixel 5a was first announced back in April. After several rumours implying it to be discontinued, the device has made it live in the US and Canada.

Google Pixel 5a (5G) — Tech Specs

The Pixel 5a, under the hood, has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G SoC, which brings in 5G capabilities alongside clock speeds of up to 2.4GHz. It has Adreno 620 GPU for graphics, and for added security, the device uses Google’s Titan M security module. Though the device supports 5G, the Google website suggests the Pixel 5a is restricted to the 5G Sub-6 spectrum only and not the mmWave.

On the software front, the Pixel 5a runs on Android 11, and Google confirms a minimum of three years of OS and security updates. This could mean the Pixel 5a would be one of the first primary devices to receive Android 12 this fall alongside the flagship Pixel 6.

The Pixel 5a has a decent 4680mAh battery capacity underneath that charges through USB Type-C. It supports 18W fast charging with USB Power Delivery 2.0.
