Google India has announced a new Nest Hub 2nd Gen that promises a more immersive audio experience when compared to the original Nest Hub. That includes a fifty percent more bass alongside and the addition of a third microphone resulting in a more responsive Google Assistant. Also, for a better viewing experience, the company has incorporated a floating display with no visible housing on the front. The Google Nest Hub 2nd Gen costs Rs 7,999 for the Indian market and will be up for sale at Flipkart, Tata Cliq, and Reliance Digital, with more platforms coming later.
Nest Hub 2nd Gen
The Google Nest Hub 2nd Gen comes with a 7-inch touchscreen with 1024 x 600 resolution. Google says, as suggested earlier, it is a floating glass display that comes with an immersive viewing experience. It is an edgeless display, which, when unused, can be utilised as a photo frame with one of your Google Photos showcasing up top. On the outside, the enclosure is made from 54 percent recycled plastic, including plastic mechanical parts. The colour options of the Nest Hub 2nd in India include Chalk and Charcoal colour options.
Under the Hood
The Nest Hub 2nd Gen speaker uses the same audio technology from the previous model. That further includes an ARM CPU with an ML hardware engine. There is a whole range speaker on the inside that promises 50 percent more bass than the predecessor. There is an additional microphone for a more responsive Google Assistant that claims to hear you better.
The Nest Hub 2nd Gen also focuses on privacy since it doesn’t have a camera-equipped inside. Likewise, there is also a physical shutter button to turn off the microphone whenever you need to.
By default, the user’s audio recordings are not retained, and they can delete all their recent activity by simply saying things like, “Ok Google, delete everything I said last week,” Google suggested in a press release.
There is also a Guest mode, which can be turned on by voice command, and it neither creates nor stores’ the creator’s Google Assistant activity.
The Nest Hub 2nd Gen will also be used as a music player with support for streaming services, such as YouTube Music, Spotify, Apple Music, to name a few. Further, it can also stream video to play your favourite movies from services like Netflix and YouTube Premium. Nest Hub also works with compatible smart home devices such as other Nest Speakers, Smart Displays, Chromecasts, and smart bulbs, for that matter, all in, to make you stay connected. You can also make calls on Google Duo — thanks to additional microphones.
Lastly, in terms of offers, the Nest Hub 2nd Gen will have a limited period launch offer. Meaning, users can avail themselves of a Nest Mini speaker at Rs 1 when purchasing the Nest Hub 2nd Gen from Flipkart, Tata Cliq, and Reliance Digital. This offer runs till January 26th, 2022, starting today till stocks last.
