The under Rs 20,000 segment in India has become the bane of Samsung as the Korean multinational, even though latest reports from the company suggest things are starting to look up. The brands announced this month that it had sold around 20 lakh units of the Galaxy J8 and Galaxy J6 since launch. Samsung said that it sold 50,000 units of the duo each day. And according to industry sources, Samsung is launching a new On Series member soon – Galaxy On8.

The handset, the Galaxy On8 (2018), would be sold on e-commerce platform Flipkart only since this is Samsung’s online-only series. Also, the Galaxy On8 is expected to feature a 6.0-inch HD+ Super AMOLED display, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. This would be paired with a dual camera setup and the handset would be priced around Rs 18,000. The report suggests the phone is launching this week.

As regards the processing unit, there weren’t any specific details, “The smartphone would feature Qualcomm Snapdragon octa-core processor,” the sources told IANS. This would be Samsung’s second On series phone in two months after the brand launched the Galaxy On6 with an Infinity Display.

The under Rs 20,000 segment is like “the pit” in Hollywood’s blockbuster The Dark Knight Rises for Samsung, from where very few return triumphant, a true challenge for the Korean giant to overcome. If it does, it will reap handsome rewards for sure.

The Galaxy On8 will fight the likes of the Redmi Note 5 Pro, Asus ZenFone Max Pr M1, Realme 1, and lots more others for a piece of the mid-range pie.
