COVID-19 Vaccine Intelligence Network or CoWIN has been announced by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) along with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). This is a digitalised platform that will be used to boost the roll-out of the COVID-19 vaccines nationally. India’s Union Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad, announced a challenge on 23 December 2020, that invites participants from innovative startups and emerging technology specialists to help boost the CoWIN platform. The registrations for the same are up and running until 15 January 2020. But before you proceed, there are a few things that you need to know.
CoWIN: App availability
The government has informed that the official CoWIN app is still under development and is not yet available to download. In case you’ve downloaded any apps by the name of CoWIN from Google Play or App Store, immediately delete it. As per a report by DNA, at least three apps by the name of CoWIN has already been downloaded more than 10,000 times by people and they are having troubles with them. That said, the official CoWIN app will be launched sometime in the future.
CoWIN: How to register?
The official CoWIN website is live, however, the general public cannot register for it just yet. Currently, the platform holds the data of over 75 lakh health beneficiaries. As for its access, only a few officials have it for now. In the first phase, it is reported that only the frontline workers will be ones to be vaccinated. However, once CoWIN is available for everyone, it will have four modules — User administrator module, beneficiary registration, vaccination and beneficiary acknowledgement, and status updation. After it is up and running, there will three available options to register — self-registration, individual registration and bulk registrations. Although it is not known how these options are going to be implemented.
CoWIN: Required documents
According to a report by the Indian Express, you will be able to register for the CoWIN digital platform with the help of photo identity. This can be an Aadhar Card, Driving License, PAN Card, and others. The cost for registration hasn’t been announced yet.
