If you remember the 2010 era, you will most definitely remember your dad using a phone by BlackBerry for official work, with an in-built keyboard. Last year, the nostalgia ended, when BlackBerry announced that it is ending its partnership with TCL. Now, if you too felt sad, don’t worry, you’re not alone. However, yesterday, it was revealed that the brand is now partnering with OnwardMobility and FIH Mobile Limited, for making a 5G BlackBerry Android smartphone with a physical QWERTY keyboard.
BlackBerry to introduce 5G phones in 2021
In the words of BlackBerry’s CEO, “BlackBerry is thrilled OnwardMobility will deliver a BlackBerry 5G smartphone device with physical keyboard leveraging our high standards of trust and security synonymous with our brand. We are excited that customers will experience the enterprise and government level security and mobile productivity the new BlackBerry 5G smartphone will offer”
As for the press release, the only thing mentioned is that the first smartphone will be released in the first half of 2021 and, it will launch in North America and Europe, so, keep your hopes in check if you are expecting it to come to India.
This will mainly be meant for business officials or office goers, since, that is what the BlackBerry devices do best. They were always meant for professionals rather than the common public. Additionally, it will be quite a refreshing device since we keep seeing glass slabs with rectangular designs and this will be a huge departure from the same. The only skepticism will be as to whether the brand will be able to suffice in the hotly contested market, since, the brand made a few mistakes in its previous life. We hope it utilizes this resurrection to improve on the same.
