The charismatic iPhone X is in the news again, and this time they are speculations about the Touch ID feature of the iPhone X. There were multiple rumours spread about the technology being implemented on the handset. The users were eager to see a Touch ID button under the display and many criticized Apple for not being able to do so.

But as astonishing as it is, an Apple executive disclosed that the Cupertino company never even thought of putting a Touch ID under the display, on the side or even on the back of the iPhone X. Apple’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering (Dan Riccio) said in an interview that all the speculations and rumours about the Touch ID are not true. Whether the news was about the Touch to be placed on the side or under the display they were simply not true.

“I heard some rumour [that] we couldn’t get Touch ID to work through the glass so we had to remove that. When we hit early line of sight on getting Face ID to be [as] good as it was, we knew that if we could be successful we could enable the product that we wanted to go off and do and if that’s true it could be something that we could burn the bridges and be all in with. This is assuming it was a better solution. And that’s what we did. So we spent no time looking at fingerprints on the back or through the glass or on the side because if we did those things, which would be a last-minute change, they would be a distraction relative to enabling the more important thing that we were trying to achieve, which was Face ID done in a high-quality way.”-Dan Riccio, senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, Apple

Amongst rumours of Apple allegedly reducing the accuracy of face ID, the experts discovered that it still worked very well. So instead of getting worked up about looking for a place to embed Touch ID, the company focused on improving on the Face ID, giving the world the first Apple phone with facial recognition. Interestingly enough, Ming-Chi Kuo (KGI analyst) had already disclosed what Apple was considering, he told clients that the company will come up with a revolutionary front-facing camera which will support facial recognition. That will help in unlocking the phone.
