The Apple Keynote 2017 Rundown

The Apple Keynote 2017

For months, we have been preparing for this day, as the much hyped iPhone X comes to reality in the eyes of the world. Although we did have a tonne of leaks, in-fact more than ever witnessed in the history of Apple, the keynote at Apple still holds a special place for excitement and admiration, as the grandeur with which Apple unveils its products is most amazing in their own way. Please read on, to learn about all the new introductions made in today’s Apple event of September 12th, 2017.

Apple Park

Tim Cook took the beautiful and vibrant stage, debuting Steve Jobs Theater, which has an iconic resemblance to the culture of innovation and perfection that Steve Jobs started. The theater in the memory of Steve Jobs is a beautifully and carefully crafted campus with thousands of trees, glass walls and a carbon fiber roof that looks nothing less than spectacular. And yes, the park is powered 100% by renewable energy with one of the largest installation of solar panels in the world. Tim did go nostalgic and brought up the idea and perception that Steve Jobs laid for the rest of us. The Apple Park as it is called will have its own Visitor Center that will exhibit an incredible AR experience to its guests. The center will also stage a built-in retail store for people to visit.

Next up, Angela took the stage and emphasized the importance of their Retail stores. Apple is making groundbreaking shifts and heavy investment to the brick and mortar stores across the world. Their retail is taking a larger step and making plaza’s which will have relaxation zones and coffee shops. They will be in sync with the public tourist spots like the pier at Chicago. They will be inviting a larger audience with the diversity that will be included with their plaza’s. The idea is to build a kind of township broadening the audience to Apple. Also new in line is a concept called “Today at Apple”. An innovative way to indulge people in creative arts using Apple devices. They have a range of sessions from Music making, Art and photography, tech and study using Augmented Reality. There would be renowned artists taking sessions too. Apple is really reaching out on the PR front with a heavy investment.

Apple Watch

Watch OS 4 is out now on the Apple series 3 watch. Tim gloated about the fact that Apple watch is now ranked first amongst all the watch makers in the world. The Apple watch is powered by a new W2 chip to handle wireless communications seamlessly including the support of Cellular. To demonstrate its cellular support, they went as far as making one of their employees stand in the middle of the lake to take the call from the keynote. Despite the blowing winds, the quality of the microphone and how it captures clear crisp voice without any noise was truly impressive. Also, the watch is now coming with a dual core CPU, so there’s that along with an altimeter, which measures altitude and calculates flight of stairs accurately. An amazing part of the watch is that it now handles data from the heart rate sensor more accurately diagnosing the rarest form of heart diseases. It can now send an alert as and when it sees your heart rate elevated, even though if you are not working out. Also, the glucose monitor and the heart rhythm sensor (for detecting cardiac arrhythmia) can really work well to alert you of your heart conditions and also dispatch emergency service well before you know, that you are getting a heart attack.

Apple TV

After months and years of waiting, we are finally getting the most anticipated 4K resolution on Apple TV. Apart from the great resolution, the Apple TV will also support HDR content. The new Apple TV will be powered by an A10X Fusion chip whose CPU will be 2 times faster and its GPU will be 4 times faster than its predecessor. Apple is partnering fiercely with big movie production houses, to launch 4K TV series and movies to iTunes. The best part is that you will get an upgrade on your previous purchases to 4K HDR content without any additional costs. Also, the new movies and series on iTunes will be priced at the same rate as that of 1080p, so no additional cost there. The new TV app will also showcase a Live sports and Live news tabs that brings life to the new Apple TV.

iPhone 8, 8 Plus and iPhone X

Behold, as that time comes, when the iPhone is finally unveiled. iPhone X has gained a lot of traction in the past couple of months. In these past months, we have seen numerous leaks and a lot of controversies building up to what the phone would be like. We went back and forth with so many concepts and nailed them pretty good. Finally as anticipated, the iPhone will be launched in 3 variants, the iPhone 8, the iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone X.

The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are very similar to the previous years model as we already know. They have now included new features like Wireless charging, True tone display like the one featured in iPad Pro. They have a fantastic new feature for the camera, which is called portrait lighting, that actually uses neural networks to change the light focus on your portrait and the background. You can take a studio portrait with a completely dark background and it gets really impressive to watch how the dual cameras make use of their sensors combined with great processing power to achieve this. The new models are powered by the A11 Bionic chip and have a 4.7-inch retina display for the iPhone 8 and a 5.5-inch display for the iPhone 8 Plus. This year’s iPhone will feature a 6 core CPU, with 2 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores. The dual cameras exhibit a 1.8 aperture wide angle lens and a 2.8 aperture telephoto lens a really good image and video stabilization. iOS 11 will also integrate AR features in the camera app. And for the first time, we will be having 4k video recording at 60 FPS and a slow mo 240 FPS recording on a 1080p canvas. The pricing is the same as usual for these two models.

Starting at $699, the iPhone 8 will be available in two variants, one with a 64 GB storage and the other with a 256 GB storage. The memory remains the same for iPhone 8 Plus (64 GB and 256 GB) starting at $799. The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 plus are not that different from their predecessors, but the inclusion of AR and video recording capabilities will have a game changing effect.

iPhone X sports an edge to edge OLED screen and a cut out on the top which features an array of sensors. To name a few, it has a new Infrared camera, flood illuminator, a 7 MP front camera, a dot projector and more. The purpose of adding these many sensors is to perfect the Face ID as a valid alternative to Touch ID, which replaces the home button for good. Another new cool feature of the iPhone X is the animoji, which is an animated emoji that does very effective face tracking and animate emojis as and when you move. This will be integrated with the iMessage app. The rear camera has a setup of dual 12 MP cameras, a telephoto, and a wide angle lens. The design and software are miles ahead from the last year’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Apple has made a major shift in design from its standard that has been set for many years. Although this does come at a steep price of $999 which for the 64 GB variant. They do also have a 256 GB variant which would get even pricier.

That is all to wrap it up. Will bring in more news about how the iPhones actually fare in real day use and if the iPhone X really stands up to its hype and does justice to its hefty price tag.
