10 of the ridiculously niche smartphones ever released

Everything that ever existed in this world has moved from an Atom to a Bomb(pun intended). During this period of evolution, bright(supposedly) minds from all around the world experiment with all kinds of possibilities. Sometimes they are widely accepted, however, some just go unnoticed.

Today we also have a list depicting one such movement in space-time around our mobile-phones.

Here are some uniquely weird mobile phones which are a result of such attempts. Get some popcorn, crash on the couch, and let’s begin!

10. BlackBerry Passport

In an era of tall phones, here’s a fat one!. This 4.5 inch square IPS LCD beauty can still be purchased even today. It comes with a QWERTY keypad and is powered by a Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 801 with 3GB RAM. Perfect for productivity as the Battery also lasts for a couple of days with casual usage.

9. Toshiba G450

This one is certainly an eye-catcher! The tri-band HSDPA G450 is a small, rounded mobile measuring just 98mm tall, 36mm wide, and 16mm thick. It is probably the lightest mobile phone I have ever come across at just 57g (2.01 oz) too. It had a Qualcomm MSM6280 Chipset with a standby battery time of 200h. And Display used Monochrome graphics. To add to its uniqueness it also included predictive text(like that’s gonna help).

8. Dior Reverie

This, probably, is one of the most expensive phones with a price of $116,000. The device comes with full LCD touch screen that is decorated with 1539 diamonds, 46 pieces of pure natural mother of pearl, and 18-carat white gold. Well, I decided not to buy it because of the colour!(True Story). It measures at 103.1×50.3×12.8 mm and weighs 137 grams also with a 3.2″ screen with 854×480 pixels resolution, a 5MP camera, microSD card slot, and full connectivity suite on board. This is just one of the very few devices which has been appropriately priced!

7. Cat S60

It is a 12.7 mm thick phone and is designed to withstand a 6-foot drop, thanks to the die-cast metal frame. It is also IP68 certified which makes it dustproof, shockproof, waterproof, and just about anything-proof. It can be submerged in water to a depth of 5 meters. One of the prominent features is the thermal imaging capability of this phone. This HULK smartphone runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor, 3GB RAM, and 32GB internal storage. That’s not all because once you switch on the CAT S60, you will find that it runs Android 6.0 (Marshmallow).

6. Nokia 7280

This weird looking thing from Nokia is operated with a single button on the front, compared to the iPhone X, which has none!. With a dimension of 11.50 x 3.20 x 1.90 centimeters, it weighs in around 84 grams and has a standby time of 240 hours.

5. Nokia 7600

Following the lead, I also came up with this love-it or hate-it shaped strangeness. Size measured to 87 x 78 x 19 mm which surprisingly amounts to a device with about 7 days standby time. It also can provide 384 kilobits per second in 3G networks. Audio files can be downloaded wirelessly using the Nokia Audio Manager software which was included in the Nokia PC Suite.

4. Vertu Signature Cobra

The limited edition ‘flagship’ phone with a ridiculously expensive price tag is just what you’ve been waiting for. Each unit is priced at $360k (nearly Rs. 2.3 crores). Runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 Quad-Core Processor with 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, MicroSD Slot, and a 5.2-inch FHD Touchscreen with 428 PPI, and a 21 MP rear camera with dual-tone LED flash, and 4G and wifi and NFC and..and…and a 3160 MAh battery. wooffff!! The model is designed with a France based Jewelry brand and includes 439 rubies.

3. Samsung NPH-N270

‘A phone from the Matrix’. This futuristic design specifically designed for filming in the movie “The Matrix: Reloading” is one of a kind. Made in a monoblack case with a mass of 132g, The body is basically made of plastic and only the guide cover is made of metal. The device supports PCS CDMA frequency and the software is much basic, makers of this product didn’t really care too much for the specs and functionality since it was meant to just look pretty.

2. Nanex – Mini Android Phone

World’s smallest Android phone. With a 2.45 inch display, this mini smartphone comes with water and dust resistance, 1ghz processor, runs on Android 4.0, and weighs just about 66g.

1. LG G Flex 1/2

As this name might divert you but it isn’t a flexible smartphone, instead it’s the world’s first smartphone with a curved display. Truly it is one of the first curved displays ever on a smartphone, clearly with a different curvature. Other than a curved display, it had an amazing self-healing back panel (heals itself from scratches). Loaded with snapdragon 810 it was definitely one of the most powerful smartphones for its time.
