10.or (pronounced as Tenor) is a new entrant to the Indian smartphone market. They’ve already announced two budget-friendly devices – 10.or E and 10.or G, out of which the 10.or E was expected to go on sale from 14th September, but they have postponed the sale to 29th September and the 10.or G will go on sale from October 3. Read more about the 10.or E here.
While 10.or E was launched in the sub-Rs.10,000 segment, 10.or G belongs to the hottest and most competitive segment of Indian smartphone market, i.e. Rs.10,000 – Rs.20,000. How does it fair among other smartphones in the same segment? Let’s take a look.
10.or G comes with a 5.5 inch Full HD (1920×1080) IPS LCD display covered by 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 3. This 5.5-inch display along with dual stereo speakers placed at the bottom of the device is expected to give a superior media experience. The phone features a metallic unibody design with a fingerprint scanner placed at the rear side, below the dual camera setup. It measures 155x76x8.5 mm and weighs 170g. 10.or G looks identical to most devices in this price segment which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
10.or G sports a dual 13MP+13MP sensor with 1.12μm pixel size, f/2.0 aperture, and PDAF along with a dual tone LED flash at the back. This is an RGB + Monochrome setup with 12 customised shooting modes including support for background blur (bokeh), panorama mode and facial recognition. There is a 16MP f/2.0 sensor and an LED flash at the front for selfies. The selfie camera features beauty mode, face recognition, and selfie countdown timer.
Performance and Software
Under the hood, 10.or G packs in an octa-core Snapdragon 626 SoC coupled with Adreno 506 GPU. It comes in two RAM/Storage configurations – 3GB/32 GB and 4GB/64GB. Storage can be expanded using a microSD card up to 128GB. The device is powered by a 4000mAh battery which sadly doesn’t support Fast charging. 10.or G runs Android 7.1.2 Nougat out of the box with a promised update to Android 8.0 Oreo.
On the connectivity front, 10.or G supports VoLTE/4G/3G/2G, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, GPS, GLONASS and Bluetooth 4.2. A micro USB port is present for charging and data syncing. It accepts either dual Nano SIMs or 1 Nano SIM + 1 microSD card, through a hybrid SIM slot. It features all necessary sensors and an LED notification indicator.

Pricing and Availability

The naming scheme of 10.or devices reminds me of Motorola when it was under Google. Moto, after a long time, came back to the market by introducing 3 devices namely Moto E (entry level), Moto G (mid-range) and Moto X (High end). Does that mean 10.or has a High-end device down the road – 10.or X? (That’s just a wild imagination from my part).
10.or G is priced exactly similar to the popular Redmi Note 4. It also has to compete with a slew of devices in the sub-Rs.15,000 mark – Honor 6X, Lenovo K8 Note, Lenovo K8 Plus, Moto G5 Plus, Mi A1, Mi Max 2 to name a few. All of these devices have more or less similar internals. With that being said, 10.or G doesn’t appear to be a bad choice but as of now, there are no specific reasons for us to choose it over the devices from other reputed manufacturers. We have to wait until the device rolls out to see what it bring under its sleeves. What is your opinion about the 10.or G? Would you choose it over other devices available in the same price range?
